National Arts Competition




The exhibition and awards ceremony of island-wide art competition and creative electrical energy saving tips among school children was held on 21 st of September 2017 at the BMICH main hall. The competition was organized by Ceylon Electricity Board with the assistance from Presidential Task Force on Energy Demand Side Management. This competition was held with a view to promote energy efficiency concepts/measures among the young generation.

The art competition was open to students from grade 6 to 13 under three age groups and the competition was held first on district level and finally on national level. First three students selected in the art competition from each age group and from each district were qualified for the National Level Art Competition. The winners were awarded Rs. 45,000, Rs. 35,000 and Rs. 25,000 for first, second and third on district level Art competition and Rs. 100,000, Rs. 75,000, and Rs. 50,000 for winners of national level Art competition. The competition on creative electrical energy saving tips was open to students from grade 6 to 13 without any age group categorization and it was held on district level. The first five winners were awarded Rs.10,000 on district basis. All the winners were awarded on stage and monetary awards; 50% to the student and the other 50% to the school was provided.

The government schools, private and international schools were informed through letters to school principals containing all the details of the competition. In addition, provincial assistance science and arts directors were enlightened about the programme and school energy clubs have also been informed the competition. In addition, the public were informed through print media.
